Watching this live video of Kim Carnes singing “Bette Davis Eyes” made me think of Bonnie Tyler. Kim Carnes’ voice always sounded scratchy. So did Bonnie Tyler’s. For the most part, Kim Carnes sounds the same on this video as she did in 1978.
Then I found this live video of Bonnie Tyler singing “Total Eclipse Of The Heart”. To her credit, she actually hits the notes for the most part. But talk about nails in the throat – wow. I mean, seriously. At what point do you say to yourself “I probably should quit smoking before I accidentally quit speaking”? Be sure to watch/listen to the very last note she hits at the very end. It’s worth it.
